WOOD LOTTERY

Today was wood lottery day! For those of you that have never heard of a lottery for something as common
as wood...here in southeast Alaska most of the trees fall into protected forest land. So once a year the
Forest Service accepts names and holds a lottery to draw the names of a few people to go into a section
of the forest and cut firewood.

Fortunately our name was drawn and my husband and daughter braved 13 degrees at 8:00 am to go and
cut firewood for 3 hours. My daughter took these amazing pictures of a frozen stream and small waterfall.
She said a mink came strolling down one of the logs not a foot from her leg, totally oblivious to her presence
as she was taking these pictures. He didn't stick around long though! Click the pictures to make them larger.
